Thulite mining in Norway - we are a very international group of people who spent one week in Norway to mine thulite under challenging circumstances. The mine is difficult to access, the surrounding rocks are very hard and the rough stones have to be picked up by a helicopter because the mine is in the middle of a swamp.

Great opportunities in Fennoscandia, Northern Europe! Europe's richest ore reserve domain has seen an enormous increase in mining activities and mineral exploration during the last few years. Companies have invested record sums in the search for base metals and precious metals. Several mine projects are active and new mines have been opened. The Fennoscandian Shield offers great potential for new discoveries! Fennoscandia = a geographic and geological term describing the Scandinavian Peninsula, the Kola Peninsula, Karelia and Finland. In geology, it also refers to the underlying Fennoscandian Shield of Norway, Sweden, and Finland.

(EN) The silver mines of Kongsberg, in Buskerud county in Norway, constitute the largest mining field in Norway, with over 80 different mines. It was the largest pre-industrial working place in Norway, with over 4,000 workers at its peak in the 1770s and supplied over 10% of the gross national product of the Danish–Norwegian union during its 335-year-long history: over 450,000 man-years were expended in the production. The town of Kongsberg houses the Norwegian Mining Museum, which houses collection of silver, tools, and machinery utilised by the miners, engineers, and doctors. Silver was first discovered between the 1 July and 5 July 1623. The story says that two small children - Helga and Jacob - were out shepherding their cattle at the top of Gruveåsen hill. They had an ox with them whi...

The Railway from Sweden’s Luleå northwest to Narvik in Norway runs mostly north of the Arctic Circle. While iron ore trains are usually associated with ugly mining sites, these, Europe’s heaviest, roll through endless pine forest, past towns of heritage site merit, lonely stations and through the virtually unspoilt scenery of the Abisko National Park and Norwegian Fjords. Veteran Siderod electrics operating alongside the new IORE giants under a midsummer night sun on the northern horizon further complete a perfect blend for classic railway entertainment! -------------- Watch more travel videos ► http://goo.gl/HYQdhg Join us.
